| Doerre Students Attend World Forum |
|
Spring, TX. Emily Frost, Katy Jao, and Jim Settles who are eighth grade students at Doerre Intermediate School participated in the People to People World Leadership Forum in Washington, D. C.

The goal of People to People World Forum events is to help young people build self-confidence, establish lasting friendships, and gain a greater understanding of people and cultures from around the world. The three Doerre students attained each of these goals.
While enjoying the major attractions of Washington, Emily learned that she should not judge people from a first impression. By learning more about a person’s culture, she found that she was able to establish new friendships that she might not have made had she made judgments based on a first impression.
Because of Jim’s interests, he found the Air and Space Museum a highlight of the trip. As the week’s visit progressed, Jim felt his uneasiness “melt away” allowing him to feel “right at home” in circumstances that were new. Now, he is anxious to travel outside the United States.
Katy stated that the most fun parts of the forum were the opportunity to make friends with students from South Africa and taking a cruise on the Potomac. She also liked the evening group times when students shared what they had learned during the day.
At Doerre Emily is the mascot of the cheering squad, a member of the Culture Club, the president of the student council, and an ambassador. Jim participates in the Culture Club and enjoys golf away from school. Katy is active in the student council, the Culture Club, and the orchestra as a cellist. Away from school, Katy studies Mandarin.
