The keynote speaker Dr. Bernard Harris Jr. who is a medical doctor/astronaut who made two flights into space reminded the students that they can be anything they want to beusing their unique talents to achieve success. After watching the first walk on the moon by U. S. astronauts, Dr. Harris announced to his mother that he wanted to become an astronaut. Her response was that he could be anything and do anything. That message from his mother is the one he continues to give to young people.

In describing the value of the Summit, Shawana Allen who is the graduation advisor at Klein Forest noted, “The summit provided the tenth grade students of Klein Forest with an opportunity to interact and communicate with successful professionals who experienced adverse conditions and challenges growing up. Moreover, the candid break-out sessions allowed the students to speak openly about relationships and to learn about perseverance, the importance of education, personal health, confidence, and self-esteem. This was definitely an engaging and worthwhile educational experience that the students will remember for years.”
