| Klein Offers Peer Mediation Training |
|
Spring, TX. As part of its multifaceted approach to creating safe schools, the Klein ISD offers peer mediation training so that staff members can lead students to solve disagreements before they escalate into discipline problems. In per mediation, students who are trained as mediators apply problem-solving strategies to assist their peers in settling disputes in a manner satisfying to all parties. A total of 25 campuses have participated in the training over the past two years.

Schools participating this fall were Brill, Eiland, Epps Island, Frank, Kohrville, Krahn, Lemm, McDougle, Metzler, Mueller, Nitsch, and Theiss elementary schools, Schindewolf Intermediate School, and Klein Forest High School.
Students (Alex Chapa, Alicia Harmon, Tatiana Velasquez, and Adrienne Roche) from Klein Forest High School described for participants in the training how they use peer mediation skills to help students solve problems.
Presenters for the training were Dr. Charlye Jo Ivy who is a counselor at Schindewolf Intermediate School, Ms. Terri Baker who is a counselor at Metzler Elementary School, and Ms. Angie Mentz who is the district’s high school completion specialist.
The coordinators of Klein’s peer mediation program are Ms. Jeannie Connors who is a student support officer and Ms. Angie Mentz.
The Klein ISD is located in north Harris County and has more than 43,527 students in its twenty-six (26) elementary, eight (8) intermediate, and four (4) high schools. Visit the district’s Web site at www.kleinisd.net for additional information about the Klein Independent School District.
