Benfer Volunteer Serves as KISD Volunteer of the Month
Spring, TX. Ms. Chrissy Spring is the October volunteer of the month for the Klein ISD. She volunteers every day at Benfer Elementary School.
Ms. Spring’s first volunteer service in the Klein ISD was nine years ago at Epps Island Elementary School. After moving to the Benfer attendance zone, Ms. Spring continued to volunteer at Epps Island and Benfer for one year. Since the 2003-2004 school year, Ms. Spring has been volunteering solely at Benfer. Even though her older child is now a student at Strack Intermediate School, Ms. Spring has chosen to volunteer only at Benfer.

The gift of volunteer service that Ms. Spring gives to young students and the faculty/staff of Benfer is an amazing gift. Her first love in volunteering is working one-on-one with kindergarten and first grade students who need additional instruction/support in acquiring early literacy skills. When she is not working with students, Ms. Spring uses her talents to help teachers. Ms. Spring said, “If anybody needs anything, I will do it for them.”

Additionally, Ms. Spring has worked with the PTO in traditional volunteer roles serving as the campus coordinator for music appreciation activities, a room mother, a class reader, and a committee member for the fifth grade appreciation activities.

Volunteering is a demonstration of Ms. Spring’s desire to help others. She said, “I expect nothing in return. If I can help even one child to gain skills or accomplish something, I feel great. As I help students learn to read, I know that I am helping to open the door to gaining knowledge that will be theirs forever.”

Principal Dr. Loraine Lambert describes Ms. Spring as a faithful volunteer who loves children. She said, “Ms. Spring makes an impact at Benfer. She is a blessing to every child who enters this building.”

The Klein ISD is located in north Harris County and has more than 43,527 students in its twenty-six (26) elementary, eight (8) intermediate, and four (4) high schools. Visit the district’s Web site at www.kleinisd.net for additional information about the Klein Independent School District.
