College system updates hurricane damages
In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Ike, Lone Star College System spent more than $300,000 to begin necessary repairs on flooded buildings and damaged roofs. The system was forced to enter emergency contracts to start cleanup efforts at several campuses, said Richard Carpenter, chancellor of the system.

Ike deals blow to Mercer Arboretum & Botanic Gardens
Mercer Arboretum & Botanic Gardens is still trying to assess the damage Hurricane Ike has left across its grounds. The 300-acre Harris County Precinct 4 facility at 22306 Aldine Westfield Road sustained significant tree damage when Ike struck on Sept. 13. Since then, the grounds east of Aldine Westfield have been closed.
